Farewell to Alex Badeh

It was an emotional moment as Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh was laid to rest at National Military Cemetary, Abuja on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

Unknown gunmen assassinated Badeh, a former Nigeria Chief of Defense Staff in Abuja on December 18, 2018. The retired military officer was traveling back to Abuja with his driver who was also shot with an unidentified man.

Badeh, a Four-Star officer was Chief of Defense Staff from April 2014 to 2015 after serving as Chief of Air Staff from the year 2012 to 2014. He was Commander of the Presidential Fleet, during the Olusegun Obasanjo presidency from 2002 to 2004.

Badeh would be remembered for his doggedness and commitment to the war on terrorism. Under his leadership, he started Armed Forces Radio broadcasting form Mogadishu Cantonment broadcasting on 107.7 FM to provide accurate information to the public and to enhance public diplomacy.

He initiated an indigenous Engineering team that focuses on developing domestic Unarmed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and other weapon systems. This professional teams consisted of Nigerian Air Force officers with PhDs and master’s degrees in various fields of aerospace design, avionics, and armament specializations.

He pioneers the creation of the Armed Forces DNA Laboratory, which allows for easy identification of casualties of war.
